Is Your Skincare and Makeup Contributing to Your Acne?

When managing acne-prone skin, choosing the right skincare products and makeup is just as important as the treatment you choose.

Skincare products and makeup that contain large-size molecular oils or other occlusive agents can block pores, and interfere with your journey to clearer skin.

Here’s how to select products that support — not sabotage — clear, healthy skin.

1. Foundation Makeup

It’s understandable to want to cover pimples with foundation, but the wrong type can actually make acne worse.
Unless a foundation is clearly labelled 'oil-free' or 'water based', it will almost certainly contain large-size molecular oils capable of clogging the pores — and counteract the efforts of your acne treatment attempting to unclog the pores.

✅ Choose only: Foundations labelled 'oil-free', 'water-based' or 'non-comedogenic'.

2. Avoid Powder Compacts:

These typically contain large, pore-clogging oils.

✅Use instead, a loose mineral or translucent dusting powder for a lightweight, breathable finish.

3. Skincare Products — Cleansers, Moisturisers & Serums

Every step of your skincare routine should support clear skin, not compromise it.
Only use skincare products labelled 'non-comedogenic'  — these are specifically formulated not to block pores to trigger or worsen acne.

✅ Look for lightweight gel cleansers, oil-free moisturisers, and water-based serums.
Avoid all products not labelled 'non-comedogenic'.

4. Sunscreen

Sunscreen is vital, but some formulas can aggravate acne.
Avoid sunscreen oils, foams, and heavy creams that leave residue on the skin and can block the pores.

✅ Choose lotion, milk, or gel-based sunscreens that are non-comedogenic and oil-free.
These provide effective UV protection without clogging pores.

Dr Mayson’s 7/AM Hydrating Facial SPF50+ Sunscreen offers broad-spectrum protection while keeping the skin hydrated and balanced without clogging the pores.
